Mindfulness Based Yoga

Mindfulness is defined by Jon Kabat-Zinn (founder of the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program—MBSR) as “paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally”. It has been shown to reduce stress levels, improve concentration, help with pain management and bolster the immune system. In this class students will combine specific mindfulness practices (such as meditation and body scanning) grounded in MBSR with an active, mindful yoga practice.


In this class we will move through a series of gentle postures using props. The therapeutic and restorative yoga modalities differ in many ways from the many traditional yoga disciplines seen and practiced more commonly. The focus of Restorative yoga is on balancing the nervous system for optimal health and wellbeing. These seemingly passive and mostly supine or prone postures pack a punch when it comes to healing and maintaining your health. Restorative yoga is a practice of embodied meditation; by fully supporting the body with props and eliminating stimulation, we become still and quiet, drawing our awareness from an external focus to an internal one. A restorative practice can open things up emotionally and physically that cannot be addressed through active postures alone. This is a wonderful practice on its own (especially for those looking for a gentler, therapeutic approach to yoga), or in addition to your regular active yoga practice. Gentle and Therapeutic Yoga

A therapeutic yoga practice is more adaptive, mindfulness based, and focused around healing and integrating the body and the mind in our healing process. Use of props are integral to the physical postures where we support and help to open the body gently without deep stretching or stress. Lisa’s Gentle and Therapeutic classes are suitable for anyone looking to either begin or deepen their yoga practice. Students will be taught specific posture modifications and alignment adjustments to make the practice more therapeutic and easeful. Breathing practices and simple meditations will also be introduced.

Beginners Yoga

Anyone can do yoga! Bring your curiosity and leave your worries at home. During Lisa’s Beginner’s Hatha class you will learn the yoga basics. Students are taught foundational components of yoga postures, breathing and relaxation practices, and simple meditations focused around the breath and mantra. Each class will have demonstrations, and the use of yoga props (blocks, blankets, straps, chairs, the wall) and posture modifications will always be offered.

Chair Yoga

As we age we begin to notice changes in our body, such as in our muscles and joints, memory, sleep, immunity, and in our overall flexibility and range of movement. In this class Lisa will guide you through warm ups, gentle breathing practices, simple chair yoga and standing postures aided by a chair, the wall, or free standing. Students are given demonstrations and are always offered modifications if necessary.
